Besides This

besides that ladder
of white lilies
right out in front

I fell for the brother.
It wasn't far, this falling.
A surprise when I hit
the ground running to realize
I had fallen in love.

They say you can study your face
in the mirror (a la Plath)
and see your ancestors gathered.
I look for you.  I look
for you.  To you I look.

Cheekbones from Switzerland cow
herders and farther away
reindeer lips forehead atlas
of the north.  Short space
certain maps.  Wheat
its fields never alone.
