The food bothered her more than anything.
Too much of it at once (would make everyone sick?).
She shunned it like she didn't have a body.
She didn't need it want it. Desperate. To live.
Showing up at the table, later. A few bites.
She had to bring home a slop bucket
they ate from grateful to the leftovers
from the nuns. They were the only orphans
in the town so everyone said.
